    Note: This function is only supported when the wireless radio commander is attached directly to the camera, and cannot be used when shooting off-camera flash with a cable.

Preparation

Check the system software version

Follow the instructions below to check the system software version. If the system software version is Ver.3.01, the update is not required.

  1. Select [Menu] → [2] → [VERSION] → [CMD] on the device.
  2. The system software version is displayed as illustrated below.

The latest version of the system software update is compatible with the following Macintosh versions:

  • macOS 10.13 - 10.15, 11

Computer Hardware

The latest version of the system software update is compatible with the following hardware:

  • Hard drive space: 600 MB or more
  • Free RAM space: 512 MB or more

Other Hardware

  • Power source for the device
    • Two new LR6 (AA-sized) alkaline batteries
    • Two fully charged AA-sized rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries
    • Note: The update can be performed only when the remaining battery level is enough.
      We recommend that you use new batteries or fully charged batteries.
  • Use USB-standard cable or the cable attached to the camera.
    Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

Download & Install

Important notice

  • Use two new LR6 (AA size) alkaline batteries or two fully charged AA-sized rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries.
  • Do not remove the battery during the update; otherwise, the device may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
  • Prevent your computer from entering Sleep mode.
  • Ensure all apparatuses except the computer are disconnected.

How to download the Updater:

  1. Make sure that you are logged on as a user with administrative rights.
  2. After reading the disclaimer, click Download.
  3. The file [Update_FAWRC1MV301.dmg] file will start downloading.
  4. Save the file to the desktop of your computer (recommended).

Step 1: Start the Updater

  1. Close all currently programs currently running on your computer.
  2. Double-click the [Update_FAWRC1MV301.dmg] file you downloaded. Do not connect the device at this point.
  3. [Update_FAWRC1MV301] is expanded.
  4. Double-click the icon.
  5. To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account.

  6. System Software Updater starts up.

  7. Turn on the device.
  8. Use USB-standard cable or the cable attached to the camera. Then connect the computer and the device. The LCD monitor of the device turns off when connected to USB cable.

    Note:If the computer cannot find the device, the message "Could not find the device for this update." appears on the computer display. Try the following if this happens.
    • Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
    • If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try with the other terminals.
    Note:Never turn off the device nor disconnect the USB cable while updating.

  9. After confirming the LCD monitor for the device, click [Next]. The current version and the version after the update appear on the lower left part of the screen.

    After confirming [Current version] is "3.00" or earlier, click [Next].


    Note:If the message "The update is not required." is displayed, stop the USB connection and click [Finish]. Turn off the device and remove the battery from the device again.

  10. The device automatically resets.
    The below screen below appears.

    Note:Loading icon may not be displayed depending on the OS version you are using.

  11. Start the update
    After automatically resetting, the following screen appears and the update starts. The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 12 minutes).
    Note:Never turn off the device nor disconnect the USB cable while updating.

  12. Complete the update
    Once the update is complete, the screen below will be shown. The device will automatically reboot, which may take a few minutes.
    When the screen appears, press the [Finish] button and disconnect the USB cable. Turn off the device and turn it on again.

    If the screen on the PC shows that the update has failed, disconnect the USB cable, turn off the device and try again from step 1.

Step 2: Confirm the system software version of your device is Ver.3.01.

  2. The system software version is displayed as illustrated below.
