Sony is offering a software update for Interchangeable Lens Camera (DSC-RX100).
Improvements:
- This update improves the vibration and sound noise of the lens when auto-focusing.
Check the System Software version
Note: This update is intended for DSC-RX100 cameras that currenltly have a System Software version 1.00.
- Select Menu > Setup (3) > Version on the camera.
- The System Software version is displayed.
- If current version is 1.10, update is not required.

* Please close all other application software and prevent your computer from going into Sleep Mode.

Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-BX1.
Note: The upgrade can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery.

Important Notes:
- When performing the system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-BX1.
- Do not remove the battery during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
- Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
Install
Details
- Download the update file
Click on the file Update_DSCRX100v110.dmg to begin download. Please save the downloaded file onto the Desktop of your computer (recommended). - Start Driver Loader (for MAC OS X ver. 10.10 only)
Note: If you use OS X v.10.10, running DriverLoader, a preparatory application, is necessary before software updates. If you use OS X v.10.09 or lower, it is not necessary to run DriverLoader.
- Double-click the downloaded file DL100_1411a.dmg. Do not connect the camera yet at this point.
- Double-click the DL100_1411a Folder which appears on the Desktop.
- Double-click the DriverLoader icon.
- To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account.
- Continue the operation according to the procedure “Start up Firmware Updater.”
- Start Firmware Updater
- Double-click the downloaded file Update_DSCRX100v110.dmg. Do not connect the camera yet at this point.
- Update_DSCRX100v110.dmg is expanded.
- Double-click the Firmware Updater icon.
- To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account.
Note: If the pop-up “FirmwareUpdater can’t be opened because the identity of the developer cannot be confirmed.” appears, refer to the following page.
The warning message “FirmwareUpdater can’t be opened because the identity of the developer cannot be confirmed.”may appear when you double-click FirmwareUpdater.
- The menu appears when you click the icon while pressing the Control key. Select Open in the menu.
- Select Open when the warning message appears.
- The menu appears when you click the icon while pressing the Control key. Select Open in the menu.
- Firmware Updater starts up.
- Check the USB connection mode
Turn ON the camera.
Note: If Date and Time setting is displayed when you turn ON the camera, you must complete all setting.Select Menu > Setup (2) > USB Connection
Select Mass Storage
- Connect the camera to the computer
Note: Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
- Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
Note: If the LCD screen of the camera dose not turn off, please try the following methods.
- Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
- If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try with the other terminals. - Click Next on Firmware Updater.
Note: From now on, do not turn off the camera until the firmware update is completed.
- Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
- Check if the update is required
- After confirming, click Next. The current version and the version after the update appear on the lower left part of the screen.
- After confirming current version is Ver.1.00, click Next.The LCD screen of camera is blinking.
Note: If Current version is Ver.1.10, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack, and then turn on the camera again.
- Reset the camera
- The screen below appears.
- Press the center of the control wheel to execute.
Note: The screen turns OFF when the center of the control wheel is pressed. Please proceed to the next step.
- Click Next on Firmware Updater.
- The screen below appears.
- Start the update
- After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen below appears.
- Click Run to start the update. The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 15 minutes).
Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while updating.
- After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen below appears.
- Complete the update
When the update is completed, the camera will automatically restart. “Recovering data. Please wait…” may be displayed for a few minutes before restarting. Make sure the camera is turned ON and wait until the LCD screen appears again. Click Finish when the LCD screen appears and disconnect the USB cable.
- Check the system software version
Follow the instruction below to confirm the system software version is Ver.1.10.
- Select Menu > Setup (3) > Version on the camera.
- The System Software version is displayed.
Finally, after disconnecting USB cable and turning OFF and then turning ON the camera, confirm that camera functions normally.
