Check the firmware version

If the firmware is version 3.1.2, you do not need to perform the update.
If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of firmware you have:

  1. Launch the Sony | Headphones Connect application.
  2. Connect your headphones to the Sony | Headphones Connect application.
  3. Tap the three dots (menu button) in the upper right corner.
  4. Select the Version of your device shown in the Menu. This item is shown only when the device is connected.
  5. Confirm the headphones firmware version.

Important Notice

  • DO NOT insert the main unit into the battery charger or Power off while downloading/transferring data/updating, otherwise the headphones may become unusable.
  • The function assigned to the touch sensor may change when you perform the software update.
In such cases, please use the Sony | Headphones Connect app to reassign the function to the touch sensor.
  • DO NOT Power off the device.
    DO NOT tap (power button).
  • When updating the headphones when you are not wearing it, set the Automatic power off function (power off the function when it is not worn) to Do not turn off.
If it is set to Off when headphones are taken off, the headphones will automatically turn off about 5 minutes later and suspend data transfer of the update file. After that, when you turn on the headphones and reconnect it using Bluetooth, the suspended data transfer will restart.
NOTE: If you have changed the settings, please set it back to Off when headphones are taken off after the update is complete.
  • DO NOT perform the update in a location where the Wi-Fi signal is inconsistent, such as:
    • on a train/in a place where Wi-Fi signals become congested
    • near a microwave, cordless phone or any other devices that use the 2.4 GHz band frequency radio waves
  • Make sure both devices (Android/iOS device and headphones) are fully charged.
  • Disconnect all other Bluetooth devices such as wearable devices or smart watches from your Android/iOS device before starting the update.

Before you upgrade

  • Once updated, the firmware cannot be reverted to an earlier version.
  • For Android/iOS devices, the update process will take approximately 40 minutes to complete. (The file size is about 998 KB)
  • Depending on the radio wave environment and your Android/iOS device, it may take longer to complete.
  • To update these headphones, follow the procedure below: but when Automatic download of software setting is enabled (factory default setting) on Sony | Headphones Connect, download and transfer of update software will be started automatically.
    • Download data from the server to the iOS device or the Android device.
    • Transfer data from the iOS device or the Android device to the headphones. (You can use the headphones normally while the transfer is going on in the background, but the Google Assistant cannot be used while the transfer is going on.)
    • Execute update with the headphones.
