Through Sony's International Career Programme, I was assigned to Malaysia for a year. I'd expected myself to know the market very well but when I stepped foot there I realised even though we're only a bridge away, the market functions very differently from Singapore. One challenge was local adaption. Different countries have different consumer wants which we must understand to know how to sell to them.
It was a struggle at first, but I learnt to have an open mind and adapted my way of working. I talked to consumers on the ground to find out what they want and worked closely with local dealers to get them to sell more products. In the end, it was very fulfilling for me as my goal of increasing sales for the category was achieved.
Have an open mind. Learn to try things outside your comfort zone because you'll never know if you have talent in those areas if you don't explore it.
As a pioneer batch who set up Sony's SEA headquarters for Handycam business, I managed sales and marketing activities for Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam. One challenge was synchronising everyone to new processes. I visited each country to learn how certain processes came about and what we could do to improve. It was tough for me, but I managed to bridge our differences. We also forged friendships with each other. When I see our hard work come through, that is when I look at my team and think about what my work is about - achieving a common goal so that Sony continues to thrive.

I come from a regional role and work with people from very different cultures, so one of my biggest challenges is understanding these diverse markets. Expectations and standards are different, and things may not always go your way, so being open-minded and able to adjust to each culture becomes a very important part of my role.
In my first year of being newly promoted to a team manager, it took me a while to adjust. I put in conscious efforts to build up our teamwork and collaboration, and with the support of senior colleagues who guided me along the way and seeing how my team has progressed so far, I have a strong sense of fulfilment from the work we have done.
Be curious. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, but don't make the same ones twice.
I joined Sony in Singapore and have been on overseas assignments to Japan and currently the US. The initial learning curve here, especially in a technical IT space, was a challenge. I had a lot to learn in a short time and a level of expectations to deliver. I knew I had to put in hard work, time and effort to go the extra mile and navigate the difficulties but I'm also blessed to have supportive colleagues who recognise my challenges.
One of my biggest global projects is the SD-WAN project. As the project architect, I connect internal customers with technical teams. This has given me opportunities to make important decisions for the project and work with many teams across the globe.

Each city has different challenges that I support them on and I have a lot of fun in Sony.

Contributing to worthy causes is close to our hearts. There will be many chances to get involved in initiatives such as the South African Mobile Library Project which Sony has supported since 2008 and works with schools for books donation, as well as Sony's One Blue Ocean Project to reduce plastic waste.
