How do I use Wi-Fi tethering in the 5GHz band?

    IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check the Applicable Products and Categories section of this article before starting these steps.

    Solution

    To use Wi-Fi tethering in the 5 GHz band.

    Android 11

    1. Find and tap Setting → Network and Internet → Hotspot and tethering → Portable hotspot.
    2. Tap AP band and select 5 GHz band preferred.
    3. Tap the slider on the top and turn it ON (blue)

    Android 12 or 13 or 14

    1. Find and tap SettingNetwork and InternetHotspot and tetheringPortable hotspot.
    2. Tap the slider beside Use 2.4 GHz only turn OFF (gray).

    Note for Xperia 10 III and 10 IV:   Immediately after starting Wi-Fi tethering, you cannot connect from the client device for up to 3 minutes for checking the presence of radar in the 5 GHz band, so please connect after the notification of "5 GHz portable hotspot is available" is displayed.
    Also, if radar is detected in the 5 GHz band during Wi-Fi tethering, the communication between the client devices will be disconnected, but after a while, the client devices will automatically reconnect.

    Note for Xperia 10 III, 10 IV, 1 III, 5 III, PRO-I: The Wi-Fi tethering operates in the 5 GHz band if there is a frequency that can be used in the 5 GHz band, and operates in the 2.4 GHz band if the frequency in the 5 GHz band cannot be used.

    Note for Xperia 1 IV, 5 IV,  5 V, 1 V, 1 VI and 10 VI : The Wi-Fi tethering operates in both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band if there is a frequency that can be used in the 5 GHz band, and Wi-Fi tethering operates in the 2.4 GHz band if the frequency in the 5 GHz band cannot be used.
