How to share printer in Windows XP?

Sharing a printer in Window XP.

    • Please confirm whether the connected printer can work properly.
    • Please confirm whether the driver of the printer to be used has been installed in the VAIO computer.
    • Please confirm whether the network is connected properly.
    • Please confirm the settings of Windows Firewall if Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) is installed.
    • System does not support the printer using NetBEUI protocol on the computer with Windows XP pre-installed.

    ※ The following is an example of how to share the printer connected to a computer after the installation of Service Pack 2 (SP2).
    Different Operating System has different interfaces and characters displayed.
    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

    2. Click Printers and Other Hardware.

    3. Click Printers and Faxes.

    4. Right-click the printer to share, and then click Sharing....

    5. Select  Share this printer, type a name into Share name:, and then click OK to apply the changes.

    6. Once the printer is shared, an image of a hand supporting the printer will appear.

    Note: Please ensure that the printer connected to another computer has been set up to share, and then perform the following operations.


    The following is an example of how to share the printer connected to another computer after the installation of Service Pack 2 (SP2).

    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

    2. Click Printers and Other Hardware.

    3. Click Add a printer.



      Remark
      Users can also add a printer in Printers and Faxes.
      To do this, please click Add a printer in Printers and Faxes.



    4. Click Next in Add Printer Wizard.


    5. Check A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer, and then click Next.


    6. Check Find a Printer in the directory, and then click Next.


    7. Click the printer that is connected to another computer in Shared Printers, and then click Next.

    8. Click Finish.
