How to enable the DMA settings of a hard disk drive, CD-ROM, CD-R/RW and DVD-ROM drive?
Enabling the DMA can reduce work load to the CPU. To do so, please follow the steps below in the respective Windows environment.
* In Windows 98 and Windows Me environment
1. Start Control Panel.
2. Double-click System.
3. Click the Device Manager tab.
4. For hard disk drive, click to expand Disk Drive. For CD-ROM, CD-R/RW and DVD-ROM drives, click to expand CD-ROM.
5. Right-click on the necessary drive and click Properties.
6. Click the Settings tab.
7. Select the DMA option.
8. Click OK.
9. Click Yes to restart computer.
* In Windows 2000 environment
1. Start Control Panel.
2. Double-click System.
3. Click the Hardware tab.
4. Click Device Manager.
5. Click to expand IDE ATA ATAPI Controllers.
6. For hard disk drive, right-click Primary IDE Channel and select Properties. For CD-ROM, CD-R/RW and DVD-ROM drives, right-click Secondary IDE Channel and select Properties.
7. Click the Advance Settings tab.
8. To enable master drive, under Device 0, select DMA (if available) for Transfer Mode . For secondary drive, under Device 1, select DMA (if available) for Transfer Mode.
9. Click OK.
10. Click Yes to restart computer.
* In Windows XP environment
1. Click Start, right-click My Computer and click Properties.
2. Click the Hardware tab and click Device Manager.
3. Click to expand IDE ATA ATAPI Controllers.
4. For hard disk drive, right-click Primary IDE Channel and select Properties. For CD-ROM, CD-R/RW and DVD-ROM drives, right-click Secondary IDE Channel and select Properties.
5. Click the Advance Settings tab.
6. To enable master drive, under Device 0, select DMA (if available) for Transfer Mode . For secondary drive, under Device 1, select DMA (if available) for Transfer Mode.
7. Click OK.
8. Click Yes to restart computer.
